Hsin-Yun Hsieh

I got my B.S. degree from National Taiwan University in 1997 with a major in Medical Technology and I got my master¡¦s degree from Boston University in 2002 with a major in Biology, especially with a research interest in visual neurophysiology basically approached by whole cell patch clamping.  From my student life, I not only learned life science in a very broad range of fields, such as biochemistry, bioengineering, hematology, immunology, microbiology, and neuroscience, but also performed various technologies, such as animal surgery, light/electron microscopy, immunochemistry, and electrophysiology.  Moreover, my enthusiasm for novel science and technology writing rose very naturally, and I very much enjoyed discussing scientific issues with colleagues.

After graduating from school, to demonstrate what I learned in school, I had ever worked in life science academy and industry.  At Tseng Hsiang Life Science, Ltd., which mainly represented experimental materials, I had been involved in technical support for life science experiment instruments, such as microplate fluorometers and photometers in quantitative assays.  I was happy to be a troubleshooter in solving different kinds of technical problems, and I had looked for an environment in which technology writing predominated and in which state-of-the-art technology is provided until I learned ¡§patent¡¨ and fell in love with it.

To develop my career interest, I started to work for a law firm at which I was mainly responsible for providing legal/technical services in Taiwan patent applications focusing on pharmachemical and biotechnical inventions.  I reported office actions and provided legal opinions in letters to foreign clients and prepared responses based on clients¡¦ instructions to overcome examiners¡¦ rejections/objections.  During that time, I had been trained more critical and logical thinking in literal expression and technical comprehension. However, as a patent engineer, I expect myself to be involved in a broader range of patent practices and technical fields.

Thus, I had worked for Taidoc Technology Corp., a leading manufacturer of home care diagnostic devices, including glucose test strips, glucose monitors, blood pressure monitors, body thermometers and nebulizers, assisting R&D colleagues on developing potential patents and patent search.  When the colleagues raised many questions I never experienced before, such as cancellation actions and infringements, I strove to discover applicable resources, such Patent Examination Guidelines and relevant references to give reasonable explanations, and I turned to be more mature and independent in solving problems.  However, since the patent world is very complicated and demands abundant professional trainings, I understand that I still have a long way to go.

To be a more professional patent engineer, I sincerely hope to draft various patent documents and strengthen my legal concepts in teamwork.  Fortunately, I have such an opportunity to enter Deep & Far, which has many intelligent patent engineers from diverse challenging places and which interacts very well with domestic and foreign industries.  To be more qualified in Deep & Far, I expect myself to be humble in absorbing colleagues¡¦ experience, cultivating my global perspective and further providing high quality of patent services for industries.
