Yu-Ting Chen
Mr. Chen graduated from the Department of Industrial
Engineering and Engineering Management at National Tsing
Hua University
in June 2006. During the period of
college life, he joined the aboriginal service club in the fresh year, being
the instructor and the section chief of activity in the camp, also planned for
one of the procedure of the activities in IE week in the department, and
participated in the team of class book to create and design the style and
nature of department. Those
varieties of experiences of extracurricular activities really gave him a
different view for the life. His
broad and expansive mind makes him easily be accepted by others, especially
when facing strangers. In the
summer vacation of sophomore year, Chen spent six weeks for a travel study in
the US
to broaden horizons. This is a
turning point of great progress on his English ability of listening and
speaking. In July 2005, he got a
chance of four month internship in Electronics Corporation in Hsinchu Science
Park. The goal was to optimize human resources
and production outputs by using stopwatch to measure times for the motion of
workers and machines. Even though
it is a trivial and dreary work, he still tried his best to fulfill all the
tasks. ¡§No matter how tedious
things would have something meaningful behind.¡¨ said Chen, ¡§The more
elementary, the more uninteresting, the more weighty.¡¨
After graduated
from the university, Chen worked in a restaurant for three months. Although it is a short period, it does
affect him a lot in his lifetime.
¡§As a waiter, I have to always put the customers in the first place,¡¨
and Chen continued, ¡§What we served are not only the meals, but also their
hearts.¡¨ This is the truth that
happens not only in service, but in every kind of industry. Besides, as a noncommissioned officer in
the period of military service, he learned how to educate subordinates and make
them obey. Being a leading person,
he had to set a good example with his own behavior. He knew that he can never shirk from his
duty; otherwise his man will also slack off in their jobs. Chen's earnest attitude was finally
conveyed to his troops, starting to trust and follow his orders gradually.
In modern trend
of Taiwan
that everyone keeps studying in graduate school, his behavior of deciding to
leave the university and step into society is unusual. In his mind, however, the desire of
pursuing practical experience is getting strong. Even though the challenge is waiting
ahead, he is still fully prepared and confident of striking everything
blockaded on his road. These are
the words he promised to himself when the moment this young person received his
diploma on the graduation ceremony.
