The Taiwan Intellectual Property Office (TIPO) began promoting a series of convenience-for-people measures in January 2014. The details are as follows:

1.  Accelerated Examination for Green Technology Invention Patent

TIPO has added into the list for accelerated examination for an application whose ¡§Claimed Invention is Green Technology Related¡¨ into the ¡§Accelerated Examination Program (AEP) for Invention Patent¡¨, and has begun accepting applications.

(A) To encourage applicants of green technology patents to apply for accelerated examination, any applicant can apply for the accelerated examination as long as the contents of its/his/her patent application meet the following conditions:

(1)   The technical fields involve energy conservation technology, new energy, new energy vehicles, etc.

(2)   The inventions involve carbon reduction and resources utilization saving.

(B)  The applicant only need to submit documents stating that the claimed invention in the filed patent application is green technology related and pay the official fee NT$ 4,000.  TIPO will issue a notice of examination result within 9 months after the applicant submits the related complete documents.

2.      Electronic Service of Patent and Trademark Related Official Document

TIPO expressed the intent to provide electronic service for patent/trademark applications and other related proceedings.  After an applicant or an agent properly prepares an electronic certificate, becomes a member of TIPO¡¦s e-Network Communication, completes online the agreement of receiving electronic official document service, and then downloads the electronic service express tool (E-SET), TIPO will electronically serve the patent and trademark official documents that are suitable for electronic service.
